A lot of great cartridges have come from wildcatting, i. Pistol cartridges, well, not so much. I really prefer plain Jane rifle and pistol calibers that are readily available.

What would please me, and I'm sure a lot of others, is for companies to ramp up the production of the lowly. I bet they'd sell all of it they could make! Armscor has a pretty interesting history.

Fire-Breathing, Multi-Cal 1911: Rock Island Armory’s .22 TCM/9mm Combo – Full Review.

I watched a program on one of the 'gun' channels about it. IMHO the 'new blood' running the company had better pay close attention to their business model. Hope they're successful. Last edited: May 13, May 13, 3. I shoot and reload for the 5. Also own and shoot a PMR30 22wmr. Not sure snc1d whmis well TCM compares to 5. One, the pistol is half the price of a 5. Two, it comes with a 9mm conversion, and 9mm is pretty economical to shoot.

Three, though the round 22Tcm is only avail through Armscor, reloading for it is also supported.

Four, it is unique. I have looked at the TCM at length and thought of getting one to play with, knowing I could always switch over to 9mm if I wanted. If you ever shoot a FsN pistol, it would help one understand why I like the round so much.

Light weight, 20 rounds, and super accurate at long ranges, equals super fun. Plus it is a good defensive round. My 2 cents. Sent from my iPhone using Glock Forum. JollyrogersMay 13, Designed specifically for Rock Island Armory s, the original. A high-speed, low-mass firebreather. From handguns, the cartridge is on par with hot 9mm in terms of energy at the muzzle and the cases are a similar diameter. The problem is that.

In order to make this work, Armscor had to do something different. An easy solution would be to load the cartridges with the bullet set back just a tenth of an inch, but then the taper of the bullet would mean that the diameter of the projectile at the crimp would be smaller than the case mouth. In order to shorten the overall length of the cartridge Armscor selected a different kind of bullet.

The new bullet is more dome-shaped with an aggressive taper. The load continues to use an open-tip design making it an all-purpose load for plinking, small game hunting and absolute melon obliteration. Because the only real difference is the bullet.

The 9R load is capable of producing muzzle velocities in the 1, to 2,feet per second range, just a hair behind the standard load.

The 22 TCM is a nifty little cartridge. The image above shows it in a line up next to some of its peers. It uses the same case but a different profile bullet to enable it to fit in smaller magazines.

When I reached out to Armscor, they told me it is safe to fire the 22 TCM 9R in a 22 TCM rifle, however, it may not feed well from the magazine due to the difference in geometry. The checkered stock is attractive, especially for a rifle at this price point. Its steel surfaces are nicely parkerized and the aluminum is anodized. The rifle is fed with a pistol style magazine system from a bottom metal system.

It uses a magazine release similar to a pistol. The magazine is constructed of metal and looks like a short pistol magazine. My understanding is that full sized, round pistol magazines will work with the rifle. The rifle is equipped with a bolt handle that has a round knob. The geometry of the handle allows it to clear the scope, A two position safety is located on the right side of the receiver. The rear of the bolt has a tactile and visual cocking indicator.

The bolt is retained by a side bolt release lever along the left side of the action.

Also note the cam surface located above and behind the bolt release. This surface provides primary extraction for the cartridge. Note how high the handle has to be lifted for it to begin engaging it.

The bolt is configured differently then most rifle bolts. Instead, it locks with the bolt handle in the rear of the receiver. The bottom of the bolt is recessed to allow it to override the magazine. Also note the cam towards the rear of the body that is used to cock the firing pin. The front of the bolt is a simple recess with a claw type extractor. The groove in the bottom of the bolt is a clearance cut for the ejector. I was pretty impressed with the construction of the rifle for the price point.Advertise Here.

Woodeye61 - two points: first, FTE's were common among early TCM users who didn't have the correct TCM-specific extractor installed the pistol came with that and a 9mm extractor ; second, I have had factory ammunition FTE due to the case swelling with discharge sufficiently to lock the slide up required a rod down the barrel to dislodge.

I had not heard of the "bumps" problems but should your pistol have a FTE again, check the cartridge cases for swelling. A growth of. Is it possible these bulges are contacting the magazine lips and causing the cartridge to angle further down than the designed feed angle? If factory ammo, have you damaged the feed lips or is the spring not pushing the cartridge up sufficiently to the proper angle? This can happen especially with the top cartridges in a full magazine. I wouldn't throw away rounds with a slight ding to the lead tip - I find they are still acceptable for target practice at 15 yards.

My TCM came with 2 extractors also. And, you are right, the case swelling forced the case to expand into the voids in the chamber wall which locked the case tightly into the chamber.Armscor International also produces style handguns for other well-known US brands. Though my interest in IDPA competition waned, the Spartan 9mm quickly became a favorite and has accompanied me to the range a great many times over the years.

At least until I figure out which types of competition appeal to me. This specific model includes additional competition-friendly features not found on the other four variants. It's very interesting. Not too much recoil, lots of muzzle flash the fun kind, whatever that means. As much power muzzle energy as a 9mm, but much less recoil. Fun to shoot. Remove Advertisements. Don't know anything about the conversion kits. But the cartridge and Rock Island pistols chambered for it has been out awhile.

It launches a 40gr slug at fps in a 5" barrel. HUGE blast and flash, but little to no recoil. It's a pretty cool caliber. It's pretty much just a cool range toy to me. I have been studying the Rock Island pistols chambered for the 22 TCM, etc for a while now, But I procrastinated and missed out on getting the one with the fiber optic front sight and under frame mounting rail.

I wanted to put a scope on it as a small game or varmint pistol.

Unfortunately, those models seem to be sold out at the moment. Worse was when I was at Cabelas the salesman showed me their store screen showing it to be discontinued. So they are only selling the regular ones now. But the model with the fiber optic front sight and mounting rail was actually a little less in price versus the regular plain model one.

So now I don't know if they will be selling them any more or not. Anyway, the. But it has the same velocity as the. So it is pretty hot for a cartridge. They originally used. So they use a slightly modified. As already stated, the recoil is light and the noise and flame front is bound to be impressive when fired. It sort of reminds me of the 7.

Now then for the conversions, Armscor came out with a new cartridge, the. What they did was shorten the overall length of the cartridge a little bit so that it fits into a 9mm pistol's magazine. That allows them to make the conversion kit for some 9mm handguns then. Now I assume it worked with regular 9mm magazines, but it may require a modification. I do not know though. I do not think that the performance suffered any going with a slightly shorter cartridge, so it is about the same as the regular longer one then.
