With the inevitable march of technology, the 4K offerings from Comcast's Xfinity cable service for your 4K Ultra HD TV continue to increase, and they're available in all markets where Comcast has a license to operate. Once you have committed to subscribing to Xfinity and renting the box, you will have the ability to access 4K content offered by Comcast from two content sources:.
This has resulted in both puzzlement and anger among some Comcast subscribers, who would like this feature enabled for its designed purpose. Ever since 4K Ultra HD TVs were introduced, availability and sales have increased steadily, with a corresponding trend toward affordable pricing. This has resulted in millions of consumers having and using these sets.
Although sets are plentiful and affordable, the pace of 4K content delivery for viewing has lagged behind demand. Tweet Share Email. To view 4K via Comcast, you have to line up a few things first:.
If you have questions regarding compatibility of your TV, contact Comcast Support. Netflix: Netflix 4K content is delivered through the internet via streaming, in the same way as it would be available using a standalone or plug-in media streamer or through a compatible 4K Ultra HD smart TV: a fast internet connection. The programming selection is the same as through those options. To watch this content, you must also have a current, paid Netflix account exclusive of any fees you pay for your Comcast plan.
Comcast Xfinity's in-house on-demand service: Via on-demand, subscribers can select from a limited number of films and TVs shows, the selection of which periodically changes. Also available are special events that may be presented on a delayed basis, instead of a live broadcast — for example, the Olympics and other high-profile sporting events.
The 4K programming is rotated in and out on an intermittent basis, so if you notice something you would like to watch, do so ASAP; it might not be available for long. The XG1v4 is not available for self-installation; an installer housecall is required. Here are the core features of the required XG1v4 Box:.
Ethernet port : Allows connection to a network router that provides access to Netflix and any other available or required Internet-based features Bluetooth support : Allows users to stream audio through the box from compatible devices such as a smartphone ; also allows users to stream music to compatible Bluetooth headphones and speakers one device at a time. More from Lifewire.Called the XG4, the new box offers support for 4K resolution and high dynamic range in video sources according to industry sources.
As for Comcast itself, it has remained pretty quiet about the box, declining to respond to media inquiries though sources who are familiar with the new home entertainment product have said that the company is already starting to roll out the XG4 on a limited scale.
Furthermore, 4K content will not be available right at launch. In related news, Comcast is also reportedly finally going to start unveiling its long. Long-delayed supposed 4K Xi6 and Xi5 set-top boxes. These have been reported on by us and others on previous occasions as possible imminent releases but so far Comcast has completely left them by the wayside despite its own previous claims about release dates. Hi there Frank. The rep at the XFinity store said they do not keep them in stock. You will have to call tech support and make your case to get one. And, they will not ship it, contrary to what the rep at the XFinity store also said.
Furthermore, they will only only let a tech install it. Not sure why. Based on what the tech did I could have installed it myself. I self installed mine a couple of days ago and the bluetooth is active and works well. I cant speak to 4k as I still have a p tv. Does anybody else have the same issue as me: the previous xFinity boxes had a wider receiver field, whereas the new XG1v4 you need to point the remote directly at it for the signal to be received… Frustrating sometimes….

All Rights Reserved.Ignite TV installed last Saturday. I would like to control Ignite using Samsung One remote only. There is a Reddit post that states a senior technician was able to do this. I have paired remote but the channel shows "not available" on screen, but the volume can be changed. Can I use Samsung remote only to control Ignite?
When will the Arris Xi6 wireless receiver be available?
Welcome to the Rogers Community Forums! It is definitely a lot more convenient to use one remote you are comfortable with rather than having to bounce back and forth between two remotes to do specifics tasks on your TV. I will tag in some of our Ignite TV experts to chime in and hopefully provide some insight. Gdkitty-G. If there is anyone in the Community who has successfully paired the Samsung One remote with the Xi6 set-top box, please don't hesitate to chime in and provide the steps used to accomplish this.
Yes thats the same menu here that is seen during the setup. Though, the issue is, what this is doing, is sending the TV information, to the already paired remote. Not what your trying to do. The boxes themselves, do have an IR receiver, and they can receive the right signals from another remote to be able to control stuff. As mentioned, the harmony remotes work well.
BUT I know with those, they are programmed via the computer, you use the computer to have it send to the remote, the list of all the IR codes that will work. Not sure how your remote learns the codes. A lot of universal remotes have to learn the codes via IR broadcast to them and they pick it up and learn it. But the comcast remote, not broadcasting IR for the box stuff, you cant have it learn from that remote.
Because it's controlling the TV, not the Ignite box. IR is InfraRed - its the method used to control most equipment and you typically have to be in the same room for it to work. RF is Radio Frequency and can be used from further away - from another room on the home for example, or if the device you're trying to control is "hidden" somewhere. I doubt the TV remote is RF. Basically places the Xi6 media stream box software on the TV as an app thus now requiring the Xi6 box itself.
All through the TV. Way too advanced support techs. Samsung one remote and Arris xi6-T Need Help? That's what we're here for!I now have 2 bigger DVRs and 2 clients. Picture quality and speed are better.

My pet peeve is the IR sensor location. All home theater equipment should have the IR sensor clearly marked since many of us put the equipment in closets or out of site. I use Xantech for my IR blaster and it works well with most equipment. I cannot find a good location for the blaster on the VMS Has anyone got this working?
Go to Solution. The sensor is on the right side of the display, about 1 inch to the right of the right-most digit. If you get a flashlight and shine on the front panel at an angle it is easy to see. It seems to be pretty sensitive, just covering it with my finger did not block it from working, but using a pad of paper did block it. So it seems to me that placement should not be a really big issue, but then I don't use an IR blaster.
I placed the IR blaster over that and it is working reliably. Turn on suggestions. Auto-suggest helps you quickly narrow down your search results by suggesting possible matches as you type.
