With enough know-how and a few cheap components, you could build a complex system of connected devices. Sometimes, however, you want something simple. No bells or whistles, just a button that performs a single task. Written instructions following the video, if you prefer. Apart from the NodeMCU, you should be able to find most of these parts in any Arduino starter kit 4 Best Starter Kits for Arduino Beginners There are plenty of great beginner Arduino projects that you can use to get started, but you'll need an Arduino and some components first.
Here's our pick of 4 of the best starter kits for Read More. This tutorial will assume you are using the optional LED and resistor, but they are not essential.
The purple wire attaches pin D0 to one side of the button. The green wire connects the other side of the button to the RST pin.
The blue wire runs from pin D1 to the resistor and LED. You might have received a breadboard in your starter kit. But what is a breadboard and how does it work? Read More should help clear it up! Before getting on with coding, you need to make some preparations. You can find a more detailed explanation of this step in our NodeMCU introduction article.
Two libraries are required for this project. Then, instruct the NodeMCU board to sleep when not in use to save power. When the button is pressed, it will link the D0 and RST pins. This resets the board, and the process happens again. Most of the code in this tutorial is simple enough for beginners. This tutorial goes through the code in chunks to help with understanding.
If you want to get straight to business, you can find the complete code at Pastebin. Open a new sketch in the Arduino IDE. Enter the following two code chunks. Here, we include our libraries, along with defining a few variables we will need in our sketch.
This is not a problem though, due to this handy diagram:. Here, we set up our serial port, and use a while loop to wait until it begins. Usually, Arduino sketches run the loop function continuously after setup.
Since we send the board to sleep before setup ends, the loop never runs. Save your sketch and upload it to the board.Keep in touch and stay productive with Teams and Officeeven when you're working remotely. It looks like you may have to get the network security key from the router's page. Network security keys or passwords are not as easy to retrieve as other login details. If you do not have the push button to connect the device, you may have to contact Router support to replace the device.

Sometimes you just need to communicate with the push of a button. What if I told you it was possible for about 10 bucks? With a wifi connected smart button you could: — Excuse yourself from a conversation by sending a text or phone call to your own phone. The cool thing is, you can build one of these for about 10 dollars. Well, sorry internet.
Its a good idea to buy your parts first because on the sites where the merchandise is cheapest Ebay or Aliexpress shipping times are rather lengthy. Depending on where you live in the world, it might take some time for your components to reach you so its better to do this sooner in the process than later. I know ads suck, but in this case they were actually a creative way to continuously update the page with the lowest cost parts.

Now like I said, its gonna take a while for your stuff to get to you, so in the meantime lets setup some digital infrastructure that we can use once your stuff arrives. Once you completed it, you should have completed the following:. See you in a few weeks! Oh hi there! Welcome back.
I know its been a while. Governments may have risen, switched hands, entered alliances, broken alliances, fallen, and then risen again. Yea…it takes a while to get your stuff. Now your dev board speaks Lua and its ready to start communicating with the world and run programs.
Now it just needs specific instructions or programs to be useful for your specific use case. In this tutorial you should have completed the following:. All the way back in step 1, we talked about gathering materials.

Now that you have everything in hand and your board is programmed, get all your materials together in one space. Some suggestions on how to mod your enclosure can be found here at Getting Started 5 : Modding Your Enclosure. After completing this tutorial you should have completed the following:.Created by the Wi-Fi Alliance and introduced inthe goal of the protocol is to allow home users who know little of wireless security and may be intimidated by the available security options to set up Wi-Fi Protected Accessas well as making it easy to add new devices to an existing network without entering long passphrases.
Prior to the standard, several competing solutions were developed by different vendors to address the same need. A major security flaw was revealed in December that affects wireless routers with the WPS PIN feature, which most recent models have enabled by default.
The standard emphasizes usability and securityand allows four modes in a home network for adding a new device to the network:. The last two modes are usually referred to as out-of-band methods as there is a transfer of information by a channel other than the Wi-Fi channel itself. Only the first two modes are currently [ when?
The USB method has been deprecated and is not part of the Alliance's certification testing. Some wireless access points have a dual-function WPS button, and holding this button down for a shorter or longer time may have other functions, such as factory-reset or toggling WiFi. The WPS protocol consists of a series of EAP message exchanges that are triggered by a user action, relying on an exchange of descriptive information that should precede that user's action. Other than purely informative type-length-valuesthose IEs will also hold the possible and the currently deployed configuration methods of the device.
After this communication of the device capabilities from both ends, the user initiates the actual protocol session. The session consists of eight messages that are followed, in the case of a successful session, by a message to indicate that the protocol is completed.
The exact stream of messages may change when configuring different kinds of devices AP or STAor when using different physical media wired or wireless. Some devices with dual-band wireless network connectivity do not allow the user to select the 2. A successful attack on WPS allows unauthorized parties to gain access to the network, and the only effective workaround is to disable WPS. When an enrollee attempts to gain access using a PIN, the registrar reports the validity of the first and second halves of the PIN separately.
Since the first half of the pin consists of four digits 10, possibilities and the second half has only three active digits possibilitiesat most 11, guesses are needed before the PIN is recovered. This is a reduction by three orders of magnitude from the number of PINs that would be required to be tested. As a result, an attack can be completed in under four hours. The ease or difficulty of exploiting this flaw is implementation-dependent, as Wi-Fi router manufacturers could defend against such attacks by slowing or disabling the WPS feature after several failed PIN validation attempts.
A young developer based out of a small town in eastern New Mexico created a tool that exploits this vulnerability to prove that the attack is feasible. They state that they have known about the vulnerability since early and had been using it. In some devices, disabling WPS in the user interface does not result in the feature actually being disabled, and the device remains vulnerable to this attack.
Vendors could also patch the vulnerability by adding a lock-down period if the Wi-Fi access point detects a brute-force attack in progress, which disables the PIN method for long enough to make the attack impractical. In the summer ofDominique Bongard discovered what he called the Pixie Dust attack. The attack focuses on a lack of randomization when generating the E-S1 and E-S2 "secret" nonces.
Knowing these two nonces, the PIN can be recovered within a couple of minutes. A tool called pixiewps has been developed and a new version of Reaver has been developed to automate the process. Since both the access point and client enrollee and registrar, respectively need to prove they know the PIN to make sure the client is not connecting to a rogue AP, the attacker already has two hashes that contain each half of the PIN, and all they need is to brute-force the actual PIN.
All WPS methods are vulnerable to usage by an unauthorized user if the wireless access point is not kept in a secure area. If this PIN cannot be changed or disabled, the only remedy is to get a firmware update to enable the PIN to be changed, or to replace the wireless access point. It is possible to extract a wireless passphrase with the following methods using no special tools: . From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The Roku app does away with a lot of that work via What's On. Tap the What's On icon at the bottom of the app's screen and you'll find shows and movies organized into categories that can be watched with just a click from the page. Not all available Roku channels are listed in the Roku Channel Store. To find the "secret" ones, check out the Roku Guide. Clink the link you want, then Add Channel, and you'll be taken to a Roku account page. Log in and add the code for the channel and you're set.
You can control the quality of your Netflix streaming on your Roku, whether you want to see things more clearly or if you need to stay within a data cap. As great as the Roku is, navigating from the remote could use some help. Download the Roku app (iOS, Android, Windows) and get the benefit of a keyboard, easy searching, and streaming from your phone or tablet.
If you don't see a Screen Mirroring option, your Roku device doesn't support it. On Android, screen mirroring is only supported on devices running Android 4. As Roku explains in its FAQ, some Android devices also use different terms for screen mirroring, like Smart View or simply Cast. Maybe you paused whatever you're watching and walked out of the room.
Or you slept through streaming and now the Roku logo is just bouncing around, like the flying toasters of the millennium. Give yourself something nice to look at with Roku's screensavers. So it's not an Xbox One X or a Nintendo Switch, but your Roku is still in the game. Go to Games and you can go retro with Pac-Man, race to save an emperor's daughter in Chop Chop Runner, and test your smarts with Jeopardy. The Roku Enhanced Gaming Remote with Voice Search supports motion-control gaming.
Roku displays your channels in the order in which you added them. That is unless you select Options (visible on the upper right) using the asterisk key from the Home screen, and reorder them so that your most frequently watched channels are at the top.
If you have a non-streaming stick Roku, it's taking up some real estate next to your TV. If you missed those last few lines, there's a quick way to catch up.
When you hit the Instant Replay button on the remote you also get the text on the screen. Though Roku has a ton of different channels and things to watch, you'll probably still want to access your locally stored content on your TV. Download the Plex app. New live TV services are popping up regularly, from Sling TV and DirecTV Now to PlayStation Vue, all of which are available via Roku (Hulu With Live TV is reportedly coming soon).

Sports fans can pay for MLB. TV, NBA League Pass, and NHL. TV and watch games as they happen. NFL games are streamed live and available on demand on a number of services. A number of live TV streaming services offer cloud DVR.
But if you have an antenna to watch live TV, you can also record it with a device like Tablo TV. Cutting the cord doesn't have to mean cutting yourself off from televised local news. NewsOn gives access to local news broadcasts from outlets nationwide. That could be good, or it could be bad.
Make no mistake about it, Prescott was impressive as a rookie. But a much tougher schedule and no Zeke to help alleviate pressure opens up the possibility of more errors in judgement for the second-year signal caller.
A lot will have to go right for Dak to enter the MVP conversation. DJ will need to rush for over 2000 yards and score 18 touchdowns to have a legit shot. And the Cards will have to make the playoffs. Could all that happen.

Like Winston, Mariota passes the eyeball test. Any run the Titans might make in 2017 will be due to his superb play. Because quarterbacks dominate MVP races, he should not be overlooked. Newton was not good in 2016. And look at this price. Way back in the year 2000 a sophomore Eagles quarterback named Donovan McNabb finished second in MVP voting. Could history repeat itself in 2017. Toss a C-note down and become legend.
Not since Lawrence Taylor in 1986 has a defensive player seized the MVP. JJ Watt and Von Miller have been in the conversation in recent years.
Perhaps this is the year a stud pass rusher crashes the QB party. Mack is an absolute monster and definitely worth a flier. Probably somewhere in between. It will be interesting to see how the Panthers utilize their dual-threat rookie.
Will Cam stop running and check-down more. How will the carries be split between McCaffery and Jonathan Stewart. The kid looked good in the preseason, but he was far from spectacular. Cook is a more dynamic playmaker than McCaffery, and his role at this point is more certain. The opportunities will be there for the ex-Seminole to make an immediate impact on an offense lacking impact players.
When Blake Bortles and Chad Henne are the quarterbacks, running the ball should be a priority. But these are the Jags. Trusting them to do the smart thing is risky. His upright style results in a lot of hits and that leads to nagging injuries. Watson has ability, but as long as Tom Savage is ahead of him on the depth chart, the former Clemson Tiger should be avoided.
Hue Jackson deserves credit for biting the bullet and naming Kizer the Week 1 starter. If this was possible with kindle books my family would buy more snooks. Set up a specific account just for kindle books and register all your purchases with that account.
Two iPhones, 2 iPads, two computers, one ebook. We all have access to all the books on the account. I wonder if that will extend to Prime customers of non-US stores. This idea of giving Prime members free Kindles was actually first theorized in Feb.
But the story is written as though it was just a while ago. A very low price Kindle or bundle with Amazon Prime will be a huge win for the platform. I did notice the other day that an Amazon Prime subscription beats a CostCo membership hands down.
Once you get me from visiting a box store (great. This is as weird as it gets.
Unless Amazon wants to piggy back on the logistics chain it has already set up. Amazon will probably give Kindles away to encourage people to buy eBooks. It would be a great marketing strategy. Yes, this is something that is firmly of the LAST century. It should be obvious by this point that gadgets are not the value proposition for consumers.
Not so slowly but surely, the cows are being led down the chute to paying for the content they consume. What is interesting are the implications for geek technology cultures which previously signified first adopters and heralded either success or failure of a service or product.
Amazon and iStores fit in well with that. Especially when you compare this with iTunes. There is such an allure to those Apple products, at least so far as I can tell, that Amazon needs to make purchasing a Kindle a simple, almost compulsive act. Especially when you buy that iProduct used!!. This seems to be an almost unnecessary argument for eReaders.
The ability to carry a very large library makes sense there. With a book, however, I can rarely see the need to carry more than one or two (assuming you might be finishing the current book shortly).
I think the killer app in this regard is actually textbooks and reference books. Large, heavy textbooks at that. Not only do they have the advantage in storing large collections, but search, annotation and other features are far more useful and necessary in this area than they are to the casual reader. Academic journals will still need to be read and utilized on computers, but the additional ability to access them on an eReader would certainly be a boon in many fields.
The only flaw is that this would require devices capable of color and with a good ability to display graphics.
I also suspect that it would only come to a suitably open platform, not one as locked-down as the Kindle with only one provider. Considering many textbooks are currently the price of a Kindle it should be trivial to find a way to encourage their acceptance heavily. Partnering with schools and offering a method to automatically find and buy all of your books for a semester would help greatly with keeping students with it through convenience. Why bother tracking down all the books you need, ordering them in advance (either online or reserving them with the campus bookstore) when you can get everything within minutes with a single click and not even having to think about it.
With paper books, depending on how long I will be gone for, that means carrying as many as five books at a time.
I used to think text books were going to be the killer use, but have changed my mind about that, at least in the current state of the Kindle. Know roughly where something is in a book, but not the exact page number.
More like press Menu, select Go To, enter a location number, glance at the page, guess another location number and repeat the process. I think something that could be very competitive for the kindle is if it were to offer some of the capabilities of the nook and other e-reading devices.
